About the event

Dave Wertlieb and Louise are introducing a new game at JCO! RUMMIKUB!!

For those who have never played, it’s a tile version of gin rummy. Instead of 4 suits, there are 4 colors, and numbers 1-13 replace aces through kings, The object of the game is to lay out melds of at least 3 tiles: sets of the same number but different colors, or runs of the same color.

Dave & Louise have invented a variation of the original rules, making it more fun, more challenging, and better brain food.

Could this be the beginning of a monthly gathering on 2ndThursdays?

Game sets will be provided. Limited to 8 players (if there’s more interest, more sets will be bought).

A History of Rummikub

Ephraim Hertzano, a Romanian Jew, had the idea for the game when card-playing was outlawed under the Communist regime in Romania.  Hertzano envisioned a game that would use small tiles instead of cards and had no ties to any language or religion plus could be played by both adults and childen. It became an overnight hit.

The Hertzano family moved to Israel in the 1940s after World War II, where he and his family hand-made the first sets in their backyard. He sold these sets door-to-door and on consignment at small shops. Over the years, the family licensed it to other countries and it became Israel's best-selling export game. In the 1970s, it was brought to the United States by Irv and Arline Kossoff to sell in their New York Gift, Games and Luggage store. Arline translated the rules from Hebrew to English and by 1977, it became a bestselling game in the United States.

Please sign up if you are interested - its really a fun, enticing game!
