About the event

As the fragile window of witness closes, here is a new way to commemorate the Holocaust.

The Jewish Community of Ojai, and endorsed by the Ojai Interfaith Council, will host a powerful 45-minute seder-like experience to commemorate the Holocaust in a new way. We welcome those of all ages and all faiths to attend this event.

Light from the Darkness does all the things Holocaust survivors have always asked of us: to tell the story, remember, and learn the lessons. This short and empowering guided experience is filled with song and story, ritual and remembrance, drawing strength from darkness and turning it to action.

In Light from the Darkness, the lessons of the Holocaust reinforce the core values of Judaism: remember the evil that you have experienced and make sure that no one ever has to experience such evil again but always celebrate life and your Jewish faith.

Join us on Tuesday evening, April 18th at 7:00 pm for this powerful 45-minute seder-like experience, followed by tea, cookies, and conversation. Seating is limited, and a suggested donation of $10 is kindly accepted.

Editorial Reviews of Light from the Darkness:

How to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive without living witnesses poses a critical dilemma for those who care deeply about the history of the Jewish people. Light from the Darkness offers a powerful tool to help future generations bear witness, to understand the history of the Shoah, and to apply its universal themes to modern times. --Abraham H. Foxman, National Director Emeritus of the Anti-Defamation League and Holocaust survivor A poignant and ultimately hopeful ritual. Using the words and visual artwork of the victims and survivors creates a deep and humanizing connection, reminding us to preserve and share the echoes of this tragedy to inspire future generations to ensure "never again." --Lindsay Friedman, director of Echoes & Reflections, a Holocaust education program of ADL, USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem
