And so it went. Who begot whom in your family?

Get help with tracking your family’s roots with Dr. Israel Perel, genealogy expert and board member of the Jewish Genealogy Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County. He will describe general genealogical resources (such as census records, ship manifests, newspapers, birth records, voter lists, U.S. naturalization applications) as well as those sources specifically dedicated to Jewish genealogy. He has been conducting genealogy research for over ten years. 

A graduate of UCSB with a PhD in Psychology, Dr. Perel was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to parents who emigrated from Europe after the Shoah.

As part of his presentation, he will discuss how to get started with your family research; free and paid sources for genealogy research; online vs. library sources; DNA analysis and surname origins. He will share several case studies and include stories about finding lost cousins and adopted relatives.

No previous experience in genealogy research is required. Laptops optional. Reference material will be posted online after the presentation.

This event is free for members, we ask non-members for a nominal fee of $5 (if bought in advance) or $8 (at the door).

Refreshments will be available for donations towards the  Security fund.
