About the event
Writing a drash (a Jewish sermon or interpretation of a biblical text) involves blending personal reflection with deep textual analysis.
In this Speaker Series event Cantor Mitzi will show us how to write a drash together, and in so doing, we’ll learn how to engage with the text more deeply and articulate how the Torah lives in us today, influencing our lives and the choices we make about how we show up in the world. A good drash is both rooted in tradition and resonates on a personal level, making the ancient text come alive in the present moment.
In preparing, it will be helpful if you read the parasha from Friday night and Saturday morning, February 7-8. That torah portion is called “Beshalach", and it’s found in Exodus 13:17 - 17:16. You don’t need to write anything Thursday night (unless you want to!). Reading the parasha and any commentary…
