A two-part adult education program beginning with “A Taste of Judaism” will be hosted by the Jewish Community of Ojai in conjunction with the Jewish Federation of Ventura County.
A Taste of Judaism-(no charge for three classes)
A three-session overview kicks off the study opportunity with three Wednesday evening classes (September 6, 13, and 27) from 7:00-8:30pm at no charge to the public. Rabbi Lotker will lead the first class on God (Jewish Views of God, Spirituality, etc.), then on Torah (Jewish sacred texts and Jewish way of life) and finally on Israel (the land people and modern state). Jewish Literacy Classes
This “taste” or introduction will be followed by an in-depth study, “Jewish Literacy,” covering Jewish holidays, life cycle events, mysticism, sacred literature, history, spirituality and living a full Jewish life in 15 weekly sessions on Wednesdays, running from October 4 – January 24, 2018. Participants in the Jewish Literacy course can attend any or all classes for free if they are members of area synagogues. A donation of $10 is asked of non-members who decide to drop in on individual classes or $150 for non-members who sign up for the entire in-depth Jewish Literacy program. Additional fees will be charged to cover the cost of hand-outs. Couples pay one registration fee. Those who find the fees a barrier to participation can have their fees waived.
